Change is afoot for The Lloyd District. Maybe you haven’t driven through the area surrounding Lloyd Center Mall for a while, but it’s under construction. This Portland neighborhood has been called “suburbia in the city,” but with its convenience to the MAX, new tenants moving in like Green Zebra Grocery, Of Hops and Men, and the upcoming availability of more rentals like Hassalo on Eighth, this suburban ‘hood is about to become urban. Don’t get us wrong, we love a good mall jam and are pretty fond of some of the midcentury architecture around the mall, but a few more food options in the area and a quick jump off the MAX for groceries at GZG will be welcome! How will this effect the market? We’ve certainly seen rents skyrocketing in the last couple of years, and if the rents in these new buildings are any indication of what’s to come, that trend won’t change, however with more viable leasing options for those moving to Portland, there may be an increase of inventory in the housing market, too. All remains to be seen.
